“You have cancer”. Over 1.5 million people each year in the US are diagnosed with Cancer. “There is nothing more we can do”. Over 550,000 people in the US will die of Cancer in 2010.

Cancer is a life-changing disease that may have affected you, your family, or a loved one. On October 2nd, 2010, our group of dedicated and inspired individuals, each with their own story, will paddle the Scioto River in the 4th Annual Columbus Kayak for a Cure event.

The American Cancer Society saves lives and creates a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem.

The mission of Kayak for a Cure is simple: provide an amazing one-day kayaking experience to help raise cancer awareness and donate 100% of the proceeds from this non-competitive and fun-filled event directly to the American Cancer Society.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1. Register to Paddle. To join us for an amazing day on the water, click on the ‘Paddle with us’ button at the top of the page. Here you can register as a member of the Columbus Kayak for a Cure team and set up your own personal fundraising webpage!
Upload a photo, set your fundraising goal, tell a personal story – the content is up to you. When you’re done, e-mail your page to family and friends. Fundraising has never been easier.

2. Make a Donation. You can make a general donation to the Columbus Kayak for a Cure team – or select an individual paddler to support in reaching their fundraising goal. Click on the ‘Donate Now’ button at the top of the page. Donations are tax-deductable!

WHERE WILL WE PADDLE?
We will be launching our Kayaks at Griggs Dam Park and paddle up the Scioto River a few miles and back. A modest and scenic 5 mile round-trip.

I’M NOT A KAYAKER – HOW ELSE CAN I HELP?

AFTER THE PADDLE
With support from our volunteers and local sponsors, we will enjoy a lunch at Griggs Dam Park!! Raffles, prizes, and more fun to finish off a stellar day on the water.
